If you look at a Google NGRAM chart of “invisible hand,” you’ll see that there was little to no interest in the phrase up until the 1930s and ’40s, at which point it begins to bubble up a bit, gaining traction in a few peripheral spheres here and there.

In recent years, the eye-catching images of mysterious English artist Banksy have inspired political graffiti around the world. Many of his stencils are overtly political — like the grim image of a young girl hugging a bomb. Some of the stencils are comments on cultural elements such as the “Cash Machine and Girl,” which portrays a young girl being grabbed by a huge mechanical arm emerging from an ATM. “TV Out of the Window” is an image of just that — a television set being thrown out of a window.
